The new version of TuneUp Utilities brings many exciting new features that make the program even better. It has not only improved many of the tools included in previous editions, but has also added new ones such as a Start page that provides you with quick and easy access to the program's main functions and the TuneUp Speed Optimizer, with which you can optimize and tweak different elements on your system for a better overall performance.
The first thing you see when launching TuneUp Utilities 2009 is a nagging window, a short message reminding you that this is not free software and that you have a 30-day trial period. It's a bit of a nuisance because it appears every time you it, but no big deal.
TuneUp Utilities 2009 features a nicely-designed interface that makes it easier to use, with tools classified into several categories and direct links to the most frequently used actions. Featured tools in TuneUp Utilities range from customizing the appearance of Windows to editing the Registry and covering many important aspects of your system. You'll be able to optimize general performance, gain disk space by erasing junk files and even recover those documents you've deleted by accident. TuneUp Utilities 2009 can also generate a highly detailed report on the state of your PC. The good thing is that, no matter how many changes you make, you can always go back to your PC's previous state thanks to TuneUp Rescue Center.
TuneUp Utilities 2009 adds a new shortcut to the Desktop named "1-Click Maintenance", which enables you to perform a quick maintenance check-up and which has also been optimized in TuneUp Utilities 2009. This is certainly a very handy tool that should probably be run every week as a periodic maintenance task.

It's hard to stand out in the crowded field of defraggers, but SmartDefrag is able to do so with an unexpected twist.
Along with quick analysis and scans, SmartDefrag boasts an automated defragger that continually defrags the files that you use the most, and does it without becoming a persistent drag on your system resources. You also can set it to shutdown your computer when it's done defragging your hard drives and partitions.
Overall, if you would like a handy defragger with options for scheduling and more, this is a great defragger for both novices and more experienced users.

Flashget is compatible with Internet Explorer and Netscape (meaning it also works with Firefox and Opera) but a little browsing on the developer’s website and you will find out that it also offers plug-ins for Opera and Firefox.
Flashget allows you to set up rules for your downloads, such as organizing them according to name or URL; a promising feature which actually turned out to be pretty disappointing. Where we expected a whole range of filters to select and organize downloads according to categories like size, download speed or even comments, we only found two sets of rules, seriously limiting this feature’s possibilities.
So what is our verdict? Flashget has enough features to make it a solid option for any download addict or beginner alike. What’s more, Flashget is fast. Actually, it’s really fast: the Formula 1 of download managers. If you download files often, you won’t be disappointed.

TRANSFORM XP TO VISTA 1.2

If you like the look of Vista, but don't want to upgrade Windows XP, this suite of desktop applications makes it easy to emulate most aspects of Microsoft's controversial operating system. It doesn't replicate the Aero theme, but what it does do is take existing XP emulations of parts of Vista and combine them under one installer.

To replicate the sidebar, the program installs Yahoo Widgets. For the Start menu, the publisher uses its own XP Start menu replacement, Vista Start Menu. And for the look of Vista, Microsoft's own Vista desktop theme for XP is included. The Yahoo and Microsoft solutions are the most elegant, while OrdinarySoft's Vista Start Menu has never quite worked right for us. It's bloated and feels chaotic, although it is free.

Overall, the hodgepodge of programs works fine, even if some users might feel mislead for thinking this was one unified solution to their Vista desires. However, these applications are available on their own and this round-up doesn't bring anything new to the table.
